In a recent radio interview on the Dutch Radio BNR’s program “Zakendoen” with Thomas van Zijl, Peter Noordhoek, Secretary-General of the Foundation for Quality Innovation, discussed the value of the NIS2 Quality Mark. This standard, specifically aimed at SMEs operating as suppliers in the chain, offers companies a necessary step towards cybersecurity as well as a practical solution to today’s digital challenges.
Noordhoek emphasized the importance of a cyber-secure and resilient Netherlands. In a time when cyber threats are becoming increasingly complex, it is essential for companies to be not only aware of these risks but also to take active measures. The NIS2 Quality Mark provides a clear guideline, so companies know exactly what actions they need to take.
A Step-by-Step Approach
For many SMEs, complying with extensive standards can feel overwhelming. To support companies in this, the Foundation for Quality Innovation has developed a “ladder” of standards, enabling businesses to gradually build their cybersecurity. Noordhoek explains, “You don’t have to meet all requirements at once; a step-by-step approach helps companies without getting tangled in regulations.”
The European Dimension
The NIS2 Quality Mark is based on the European NIS2 directive, which is translated by national governments into practical standards. Noordhoek points out that, unlike countries such as Germany and Belgium, the Netherlands is still in the process of this translation, giving companies extra time to prepare.
A Competitive Advantage
The Quality Mark helps entrepreneurs not only to guarantee the quality of their services but also to strengthen their reputation in an increasingly competitive market.
Brilliant or Nonsense?
In his show, Thomas van Zijl asked the recurring question: is the NIS2 Quality Mark “brilliant or nonsense”? Bart van Raak, “Future Business Leader” of Vmoto Benelux, was convinced: he finds the Quality Mark brilliant. Thanks to this accessible and usable system, companies can improve their cybersecurity without compromising their core activities. “This Quality Mark is exactly what we need,” says Bart.
