Spatial Insight is the first Dutch software company to achieve the NIS2 QM10 Quality Mark certification. On Friday 9 May, the certificate was officially presented by Marco Bijl, director of the certifying body DigiTrust, to Juri van Tuijl of Spatial Insight. The certification is an important milestone within the framework of the new European NIS2 directive for network and information security.
The NIS2 Quality Mark is a certification that helps organisations demonstrably comply with the NIS2 requirements, focusing on basic security for companies supplying essential and important entities. In the Netherlands, the certificates are issued by the Foundation for Quality Innovation.
“Fantastic that Spatial Insight is the first software company to obtain this certification,” says Dr Peter Noordhoek, director of the NIS2 Quality Mark. “It demonstrates that smaller companies also play a crucial role in Europe’s digital resilience. Spatial Insight has shown how dedication and structure can lead to meeting high standards. That is truly inspiring.”
Data in safe hands
Spatial Insight provides software solutions and data science consultancy to, among others, drinking water companies, municipalities and grid operators. Co-founder Juri van Tuijl said: “We have always handled data with care, but the introduction of NIS2 prompted us to further formalise our procedures. Thanks to tools such as the templates from Samen Digitaal Veilig, we were able to take swift and effective steps.”
Certified based on context and awareness
Auditor Marco Bijl of DigiTrust said: “During the audit, we looked extensively at the specific context of Spatial Insight. What stood out was the high level of awareness within the team and the deliberate choices made in setting up information security. This led to a positive assessment and eventual certification.”
The NIS2 directive, the successor to the original 2016 NIS directive, is aimed at increasing the resilience of EU member states against digital threats. NIS2 imposes stricter requirements on organisations operating in sectors such as energy, transport, digital infrastructure and public services – as well as on their suppliers.
With this certification, Spatial Insight underscores its commitment to information security and sets a strong example for other SMEs in the Netherlands.
